How to Make Your Silver New Again
How to Make Your Silver Shiny New Again
If you are like me, you have a ton of jewelry that is laying around not being worn because it is in dis-repair, outdated or tarnished. Silver jewelry can be especially prone to tarnish over time. I found that when I use this recipe on my silver, jewelry or tableware, it comes out as beautiful as the day I got it. Here's how:
Step 1: Gather together all of your ingredients, baking soda (1/4 cup), water (1 TBSP), a small mixing bowl and a spoon, an old toothbrush or cleaning rag.
Step 2: Combine the baking soda and water in your mixing bowl, mix into a thick pasty consistency. Once combined, dip either the cleaning rag or the old toothbrush into the mixture and rub onto your jewelry or tableware.
Step 3: Rinse with cool water.
Step 4: Enjoy your beautiful silver once again-It's as easy as that!
Here is what the paste should look like.
Trouble shooting: If the mixture is too runny it will not work properly, make sure that the paste is nice and thick but not too dry. If the tarnish is really bad and the ruling method did not work- don't despair. Try this-
What you will need if the silver is extremely tarnished: 2 TBSP of Baking Soda, 1 quart of water, a couple of bits of aluminum foil (approximately two 4x5 inch pieces-it's not an exact science, a little smaller, or larger will work), kitchen tongs, and a small cooking pot.
Step 1: Add quart of water, the baking soda, and the foil into the pot. (I know its weird-trust me it works)
Step 2: Bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 3: Add the silver to the mixture for about 15-20 seconds.
Step 4: Remove the silver with the kitchen tongs and allow to dry or towel dry. Polish the silver using the above (baking soda paste) method. Done-
Step 5: Delight in your beautiful silver.
Here are some photos I took of my silver as an example-

Hope this helps in your pursuit of silver perfection, cheers!
